PETER STETINA

After a decade as a professional cyclist on the World Tour scenario, he left the smooth tarmac to shred off-road, uncovering a more pristine cycling, powered by performance, but also of friendships and shared moments.

Born on August 8, 1987, Peter Stetina is a former professional cyclist who showed off a career in world tour cyclism that was as long as dismayed: in 2005 as US junior champion he became a young and promising professional cyclist with the team  TIAA-CREF. In the following two seasons he moved down among the elite 2 where he reached up two consecutive under-23 time trial championships - in 2008 and 2009 - which bringed him to sign with the Garmin-Transitions World Tour Team. As a professional cyclist Peter conquered important goals as the 11th place in Tour of California and the twenty-first place in the general classification of Giro D’Italia. After these exciting results he moved to the BMC Racing Team where he won - with the italian teammate Daniel Oss -  the world team time championships.
In April 2015 everything changed: at the Tour of the Basque Country, Stetina suffered a broken knee cap and four broken ribs on the first stage after a slammed into a metal pole on the side of the road. The come-back with Trek-Segafredo Team wasn’t so easy and in the following years he suffered the consequences of the crash. In 2018 another complication for his career: he was struck first by the Epstein-Barr virus and then by a collarbone fracture while preparing for the Tour de France.

A NEW BEGINNING

After a decade as a professional cyclist on the World Tour, he left the smooth tarmac to seek adventures on the off-road route: going fast counts, having a goal to achieve is rewarding but there must always be passion and sharing epic days on the bike.  The last few years as a Professional Cyclist have put a strain on Peter's soul, pushing him to seek competition in a less frenetic and more human environment. In 2019 in Australia he made his first appearance in Gravel racing and proved an exceptional capacity to ride the off-road bike: at his first Unbound Gravel, one of the most important Gravel races in the world, he conquered the second place.
Peter rediscovers and brings to light his passion for cycling and riding into nature: from the first place at the Waffle Ride in Belgium to the 4th place in Leadville Trail 100, Peter comes out with a mixture of suffering, enthusiasm and a strong motivation. From the smooth tarmac to seek muddy off-road routes he rewrote his future and took his revenge on the trouble of a lifetime.

STETINA’S PAYDIRT

Into the Gravel Peter Stetina has found his dimension, a lifestyle made of inclusion and sharing moments where he can explore new barriers and reach new limits. So Peter unearths the Paydirt, a Gravel race starting in Carson City, Nevada, in the United States, that comes out from his passion and the desire to fully express his personality. Paydirt is equal parts race and party: the rides take place on segments those ends with refreshments where you can take the time to socialize, reorganize and enjoy the assistance of the aid stations before getting back on the saddle and pushing hard through the fascinating landscapes of Lake Tahoe.
An event that perfectly reflects the character and charisma of Peter, who has always shown over the years that he never gives up and who has been able to reinvent himself to keep doing what he loves the most: riding a bicycle to have fun and get to the finish line giving everything
